THE GOSPEL PLAN OF SALVATION

  • One must hear/read the gospel message: "Faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God (Romans 10:17)
  • One must believe or have faith: "Without faith it is impossible to please God" (Hebrews 11:6).
  • One must repent of sins: Jesus said, ""…unless you repent you will all likewise perish" (Luke 13:3).
  • One must confess Christ as Lord: "…Whoever confesses me before men, him will I also confess before My Father…"(Matthew 10:32)
  • One must be baptized for the remission of sins: "Repent and be baptized every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ, for the remission of sins…"(Acts 2:38).

WHAT MUST I DO TO BE SAVED

Question – Acts 2:37: The lost crowd asked, "Men and brethren, what shall we do?"

Answer - Acts 2:38: The apostle Peter responded, "Repent and be baptized everyone one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ, for the remission of sins…"

Question – Acts 9:6: Saul/Paul urgently asks, "Lord, what do you want me to do?"

Answer – Acts 9:17-19; 22:16: "Arise and be baptized, and wash away your sins…"

The Question – Acts 16:30: The jailer asks, "Sirs, What must I do to be saved."

The Answer – Acts 16:31-34: They said believe, then spoke the word, "And immediately he and all his family were baptized."

The word "baptize" is from the Greek word "baptizo" meaning; to plunge, to dip, to submerge or immerse. The act of baptism represents a burial (Romans 6:4-5; Colossians 2:12) So, why be baptized?

To enter the kingdom (John 3:5)

To contact Christ’s blood (Romans.6:3-4).

To get into Christ (Galatians.3:27).

For salvation (Mark 16:16; 1 Pet.3:21).

For remission of sins (Acts 2:38).

To wash away sins (Acts 22:16).

To enter into the church (1Corinthians.12:13; Ephesians.1:23).

BAPTISM AND THE DEATH, BURIAL AND RESURRECTION OF CHRIST

Just as Christ DIED, was BURIED and then RAISED (1 Corinthians 15:1-4), we too, by obeying the gospel in baptism, are BURIED with Christ into His DEATH. Also, just as Christ was raised from the dead, so too are we RAISED from the waters of baptism to a new life. Baptism is a necessary act of faith illustrating the most influential event of all (Romans 6:4-18).
