How Great Thou Art
Doug Post
I. God is "omniscient" = "omniscience" – all
knowledge.
- Did you know that God has never learned anything!
- He never went to school and never cracked open a book!
- He never said, "Really, I didn’t know that."
- God has always known everything there is to know
II. Think about God’s knowledge for a moment:
- He knows everything of a physical or material nature.
- We know there have been genius’s among us:
- God has never had a theory!
III. Take Job for instance
- God had allowed Job to suffer, so He could demonstrate the quality
of the man.
- But along the way, Job began to lose his patience.
- He says to God, "I don’t know why you are doing these
things to me."
- And if this were a court of law, I would nail you to the wall.
- Finally, in chapter 38 God says, "O.K. Job I’ll let you
try ME, but you must first answer My questions, if you can"
(Job 38:1-11).
IV. An example of what I am talking about (ISA.
46:9-10)
- None like Me…I am unique, one of a kind. No one can compare.
- Notice how He defines that in (v.10).
- Before the earth was made, God knew every detail of history
- That does not mean God has programmed us to be robots – we have
free will
V. God knows us intimately
- Do we really know each other?
- Can we know every thought of a person’s heart and mind? No
- You can be married for 70 years and not fully know each other.
- But God knows us fully – inside and out
- God knows our hearts, souls, minds, every thought - that’s a scary
thought.
VI. He knows our every need
- Jeremiah 10:23
- We need instruction from the One who knows it all – God. How? God’s
Word!
- In speaking about prayer, Jesus says God knows our every need even
before we ask.
- God knows it all!
VII. Here’s His plan
- Before the foundation of the world, Christ was already sacrificed.
- He began to work it Gen. 3:15 – (Gal.4:6) Everything fell into
place.
1) This is what Paul was contemplating when he was stopped in his
tracks.
2) All Paul could say was this – "Oh the depth of God."
VIII. His Riches or Richness – what are they?
- Rom.9:23 declares the riches of His glory.
- Rom.2:4 declares the riches of His goodness.
- He is Rich in Mercy and in Grace (Eph.2:4-10).
Conclusion
All found in the cross and in His blood (1Jn.1:7). In order to have
all these riches we need to confess Jesus as Christ, Repent of our sins
and be immersed for the remission of sins (Acts
2:38; Acts 22:16; Rom.6:1-4).
