Exploding Myths That Make Us
Miserable (part 2)
Introduction :
- Hearing the truth is not enough. You need to practice
it.
- What does it mean to practice? What does it take to
practice? 1 John 3:7.
- First step to freedom – Commitment. Foundation for
happiness.
- Rom.12:1-2: You can be transformed. Renewing mind
takes commitment.
- Challenge us to make 3 commitments regarding truth in
our lives. If we
do we will be well on our way to emotional healing and
health.
- Commit Myself To Seeking The Truth
- 2 Tim. 4:3-4. Some won’t listen to God but blindly
follow own ideas.
- Why? Avoid commitment of seeking because it’s not
easy.
- Not a popular thing to do – contradicts my own
ideas.
- Contradicts conventional wisdom – "every
body is doing it" etc.
- The truth is, it’s not easy, it’s not okay –
it can be painful, unpleasant,
Scary. But it’s the only way to emotional health
stability – To face,
Seek and to know the truth.
- (4) They will turn from the truth to fables or
myths – false teachings.
- many charismatic experiences, angels, afterlife
experiences, doctrinal.
- Remember virtual reality – the devil is good at
it.
- Commit Myself To Living The Truth
A. Ephesians 4:14, "That
we should no longer be children, tossed to & fro by
every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, in the
cunning craftiness of
deceitful plotting."
B. Truth is not just something you know but something
you practice. It’s
Something you obey, submit to and follow.
- It’s not an intellectual trip. "I know the
truth – I’ve got it down!"
- We need to be a living Bible – We are epistles -
2 Cor.3:2
- 2 Cor. 4:2
3. Commit Myself To Believing The Truth
- The wonderful thing is that God wants us to know the
truth (John 8:32)
- We have a pattern in life, work & worship in
practice and in a perfect Man.
- Jesus said He was the Truth (John 14) – "I am
the truth."
- All inclusive Statement
- I don’t know how people deny him yet call him a
good man.
- Could not be a good person if a deceiver. No gray
area.
Conclusion:
We have the freedom of choice in what we believe. God
does not coerce. But
We do not have the freedom to choose the consequences of
that belief. Sometimes
Our beliefs are actually denials. I can believe there is
no moon but it’s there.
(2 Thess. 2:10-11; 1:8). There is only way to hell –
not living the truth because did not love the truth. One way to heaven –
Jesus – "The Truth."
